Are ginans Islamic or Hindu? This question, which arises from time to time, reflects the view of religions as existing in separate compartments. But is that really the case?

Satpanth, is one of the sub-continent’s several pluralist traditions, including those expressing Sufi, Sant, Bhakti, and Sikh modes of spiritual search. The ginans articulate Ismaili principles in Indic languages, music, and symbols and  have drawn from mythological and cosmological knowledge that is integral to South Asian spirituality. This rich and dynamic integration of traditions within the ginans and the human quest for truth cannot be confined within the narrow notions about religion, according to Prof. Karim.
